Dr Francesca Rannard

Dr Rannard is a Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, trained in Australia and internationally. She studied medicine at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK, graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. She also gained a Bachelor of Medical Science for which she was awarded the William Leech Scholarship for Research for her thesis into treatments for children with cerebral palsy. She undertook her initial surgical training in London and gained membership with the Royal College in Surgeons of England in 2006.

Dr Rannard emigrated to Australia in 2009 and completed her specialist training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery here in Sydney. She has been awarded specialist recognition with AHPRA and is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Rannard is fully trained in procedures across the spectrum of Plastic Surgery. Her specific interests include paediatric plastic surgery, skin cancer surgery, reconstructive surgery and hand surgery.

Dr Rannard spent 16 months as an international post-graduate fellow at the prestigious Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, UK, subspecialising in cleft lip and palate and paediatric plastic surgery, including vascular malformations, congenital melanocytic naevi and ear reconstruction. She has also been involved in a charity outreach mission to Bangladesh, operating on patients with cleft lip and palate and those with the long-term effects of untreated burns.

In addition to her clinical work, she has an interest in medical leadership and management and has been a member of the trusts delivering clinical care working group, recently leading a study into hospital telemedicine appointments. She is also part of the MILE programme, (a joint venture between the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management), and is involved in developing a new medical leadership course for doctors in NSW.

She is passionate about teaching, and coaching, and promotes the well-being, personal and professional development of trainees. She is currently setting up the teaching programme for pre-SET plastic surgical trainees in NSW.

Dr Rannard carries out consultations at Southside Plastic Surgery and is appointed at Wollongong Hospital and Wollongong Private Hospital.
